Shao/Malete road: Traditional ruler, transporters called for construction of damaged bridges.

The Magaji of Malete in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Babatunde Oreoluwa, has pleaded to the Kwara State Government to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the community on reconstruction of the road in the area.

Oreoluwa made the call while reacting to the damaged roads linking the community to other communities disclosing that the two bridges on the express way that leads to Shao town were in a very bad condition.

He emphasized that the bridges are no longer safe for motorists travelling on the road, adding that most especially the students that are coming from far distance to study, noting that recently a man drove in a Camry Pencil car along the road fell into the damaged bridge.

According to him, “Malete is where the Kwara State University is located and this is where our government generates part of their revenue for the development of the state, saying that the population of the areas has been on increase on daily bases.

 "To our surprise, we don’t have any good roads here in the town and we all know how roads are important to development of any community, government generates a lot of revenue in Malete from the KWSU students.

"No tangible development in the community as all roads  lack maintenance by the previous government.

 Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) usually take it up with sand filling the portholes on the roads to be more motorable for roads users and passer-by.

He alleged that the previous administration has been adamant to all their pleads and made us to be foolish till their tenure expired, stressing that all our effort to draw their attention proved abortive as there was no serious action in repairing the roads.

He pointed out that the community has once planned to close the road to protest to the previous government with hope that it would yields a positive results.

The community leader confirmed that in times without numbers, the community have appeaked to both governments and private bodies to help in fixing the road before it get worse.

He described the roads as a death trap as to the people living in the community and others road user because accident victims almost every day as a result of bad condition of the road.

In his contribution, the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Malete Branch, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mahmud, said the road from Wole-Oke to Malete is very bad as a result of portholes, adding that there are two bridges along which is very dangerous to commuters and other road users.

The union leader disclosed that there was no any assistance from the previous and the present administrations,  explaining that  the present government may have it in their plan to do something on it.

He urged Governor Abdulrazaq to extent his generosity on the construction of the damaged road and bridges for the community to benefits the dividend of democracy. 

According to the Chairman, “N.U.R.T.W drivers were the one that maintaining the roads by sand filling the portholes which the KWASU management also joining in patching the roads.
