Abdulrazaq : A David demystifying governance -By Babatunde Opoola.

This month, the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would be reeling out its achievements in the last one year. Just like the little boy David who took away the reproach of the Israelites by conquering the almighty Goliath, the Philistine warlord, that had terrorized his people for 40days.
Like the Israelites, the Goliath of the Kwara people was the then the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which for 16 years threatened the peace of the people through bad governance and held the state captive .

Like the common saying, where there is a Goliath, there is a David.  At the predestined time , like a shepherd boy who later became the king, the "giant killer," AbdulRazaq a man after God's heart appeared on the rescue mission by divine arrangement.
AbdulRazaq had a daunting task of restoring the lost glory of the state which was in  despair, giving hope in the face of despondency and restoring the lost glory of the state, restoring the people's confidence in government. Today, almost one year after, the once battered state, has been beaten back into shape and Kwara to the pleasant surprise of many, is working again.
For instance, there was a prompt intervention in water,  education, roads, health institutions, the civil service and other social infrastructure. The state's resources are now applied creatively in order of priorities and no longer according to the whims and caprices of few individuals.
The last one year of democratic governance has given face-lift to the people with improved health care delivery services which has already created a niche for the administration. The rehabilitation of the moribund Oxygen plant will enhance health care delivery system to the extent that kwara does not need to buy oxygen from any other private sources or other states. The plant capacity is such that it can sell to private hospitals and other states.
It is not only governance and godfatherism that the governor demystified. In some communities particularly in Kwara North Senatorial District where availability of social infrastructure had been deemed impossible, the AbdulRazaq's administration  had broken the jinx. The area has been targeted for accelerated infrastructural development. The approved Radio station for the area,  which had literally been cut off from the state is a novel decision. The area rely on news and information from radio stations in the neighboring states.
To the governor, " the pay day is sacrosanct," and every worker gets paid before the last working day of the month, in fact, workers receive their salaries from the 24th day of the month. It is not surprising that  workers got paid for the month of April earlier than 24th to prepare for the Ramadan period. It is the belief in kwara that the laborer, having worked, is entitled to his pay.
One of the most remarkable accomplishments in demystifying governance was the engagement of the sunset workers who were employed in the twilight of the last administration. The manner in which they were hurriedly employed was enough to make the incoming administration reverse such employments.
With the innumerable achievements that the governor has to show for his first year, there is no gainsaying that AbdulRazaq has been able to step on the right toes to get things done for a larger majority of Kwara people.
Indeed, it requires a giant killer like biblical David to rescue kwara state from the Goliath of yore and AbdulRazaq has demonstrated such immense courage to do so. Watch out for his giant strides in the last 365 days.
