NHIS: Oloriegbe Enrols Over 2000 Kwara Central Indigenes

•Distributes empowerment tools to 500

•Doles Out 5 Sienna to Party Structures

The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, on Sunday, announced the enrolment of 2500 indigenes of the senatorial district in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

A total of 1500 indigenes are being enlisted in the first phase of the scheme while the remaining 1000 would be enroled in the next phase to begin to access free healthcare.

Oloriegbe disclosed this at his another round of 2021 Constituency Project, which included provision of instructional materials, textbooks, furniture and equipment to selected schools and empowerment tools to no fewer than 

500 people in the senatorial district.

The legislator informed that the empowerment scheme was in fulfilment of his promise to the people to build their capacity to be self sustaining.

He reminded those who graced the occasion that the people of the state could not afford to return to the era of bad governance, which was order of the day prior to the advent of the present administration.

Explaining that the 2019 polls were a validation that people were ready to take their destinies in their hands, the legislator cautioned them not to be swayed with the deceit and propaganda of the opposition.

Oloriegbe, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, noted that the system that was rejected in the last three years should be reminded of the colossal damage done to the state with years of blacklist from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and other irresponsible conducts that portrayed the state in bad light.

"This is not the first time; about eight or tenth of its kind that we are doing. We always link and integrate them. In today's empowerment, we have health, education, economy and for artisans that have been trained. What we intend to achieve is to make people self sustained for them to be able to have things to do. That is the economic part.

"But the other one is that we have improved our education. Learning and teaching can only happen when you have instructional materials. The Governor of the state is doing renovation and improvement in the infrastructure of our schools. We are supporting that through the Instructional materials.

"Like I said, we have supported many schools with laboratory equipment. This is to ensure that the students or the children of Kwara get the quality education required so that Kwara will only not be first in debate but be able to produce great scientists, artists and lawyers.

"In addition to that, health is wealth. We are empowering our people to be able to access health care without the challenge of financial hardship. Many people due to financial inability are not able to access health care. As far as government continues to generate resources and revenue, so we will be able to continue to impact on our people.

"What is different is that we are allowing the people's money to work for them. This is not what is happening in the past. You don't see us sharing money to people. What we share to people is the ability for them to sustain themselves, get educated, access healthcare", Oloriegbe said.

The legislator, who also distributed operational vehicles to the executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara Central Senatorial District and four local government areas of Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East and Ilorin South with the senatorial district, warned members against hypocrisy, urging them to work in the collective interest of the party.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who spoke through the Secretary to the state government, Professor Mamman Sa'aba Jibril, admonished APC members to be united and make the party strong for the task ahead.

He maintained that it was only when the ruling party is strengthened that interested individuals could vie for positions of their choice, adding that the Governor had been providing the leadership required.

The Herald reports that the event, which played host to bigwigs in the APC, also featured commissioning of water treatment plant at the proposed Muhammed Kamaldeen University, Ogidi, Ilorin and connection of Alakawa community in Asa Local Government Area to the National grid through the electricity transformer provided to the community courtesy of Senator Oloriegbe.

Items distributed at the empowerment programme include grinding machines, freezers, science equipment, generators, motorcycles and sewing machines among others.
