Adamawa Partners Shippers Council For Economic Growth

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reassured the Nigerian Shippers Council of the continued support, assistance and collaboration of his administration for sustenance of the existing business-friendly environment towards the enhancement of economic and commercial potentials of the State. 

Governor Fintiri stated this during a meeting with the management of the Council in Abuja. 

A statement made available to Newsmen through the Governor's spokesperson, Humwashi Wonosikou confirms this development.

According to the statement;

Adamawa State Government is partnering  the Nigerian Shippers Council on four key projects that will enhance economic growth. 

The projects to be executed in partnership with the Shippers Council include the establishment of 2 Vehicle Transit Areas in the border area of Sahuda and Ngurore, 2 Border Transformation Centres, a Dry Port and Border Information Centres in Mubi, Maiha and Belel.

He disclosed that his administration was committed to the provision of necessary infrastructure and facilities that would help boost economic activities in the State. 

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri notes that the initiative is coming at a most appropriate time, a period that required urgent and ambitious solutions to the lingering problems of unemployment and urged  the Council to be a worthy partner by ensuring the workability of the initiative.

 

Governor Fintiri is hopeful that having created the conducive atmosphere through redesigning the states security architecture and provision of infrastructure needed to woo investors, "I am counting on the Nigerian Shippers Council to see how the projects can be actualised. Adamawa is ready". He said. 

Rt.Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri announced that his administration is talking with Dangote on road infrastructure to those border communities on tax rebate agreement, adding that the projects are dear to him because of the overall economic impact of the development to the State.

 

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Emmanuel Jime commended the resolve of Governor Fintiri to address the infrastructure deficit in Adamawa by focusing on the diversification of the economy. 

He regretted the pressure  on Nigerian roads, high rate of accidents and loss of cargo due to bad roads since 90% freight movement is done by heavy trucks.

 

Mr Jime said the organisation was established to address among others the need to enhance the entire transport value chain.

 

He said the Vehicle Transit Areas will provide a temporary rest location for truck drivers and travellers and will not hesitate to partner the State to ensure the success of the projects. 

He is happy that reports have shown that Adamawa State has good prospect for the development of Vehicle Transit Areas and particularly noted that the State already has an Investment and Property Development Company as well as a Bureau of Public Procurement, noting that Adamawa is more than prepared for the project.

Both Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and the Shippers Council have agreed to hold a technical meeting in Yola in February to tidy up their discussion for the take off of the projects. 

A Nine Man Implementation Committee agreed on will be inaugurated during the meeting to hit the ground running immediately.
