Gombe Governor Inspects Ongoing Multi-billion Naira Project of New College of Nursing And Midwifery

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Saturday inspected the ongoing Multi-billion Naira project construction of the new College of Nursing and Midwifery worth multi-billion naira in values, the new project is situated along Gombe Southern Bypass.

The Governor while inspecting the projects expressed his satisfaction with the level and quality of the work done so far.

He however called on the constructors to work hard enough to catch up with the December target, so that the next enrollment of students for College of Nursing and Midwifery would be done in the new site.

“I am highly delighted and satisfied with what I saw. The level of completion I can rate is about 60% to 65%, and our main aim here is to make sure that by December, 2022 this project is completed and ready for takeoff”.

The governor also appreciated the level of completion of the diagnostic centre being built by the NNPC, which he said was the main reason why his government sited the College of Nursing within the close proximity.

“The diagnostic centre has 150-bed capacity and the level of completion is around 90-95% and the NNPC has assured us that they are going to equip it as soon as possible once the building is completed”.

Governor Inuwa expressed confidence that the college will have enough facilities for learning for nursing and midwifery and it will create an opportunity for the old site to give way for the expansion of Government Science Secondary School back to its normal position, the situation he described as a “win-win”.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr Habu Dahiru who conducted the Governor round the project sites, explained that the facility is going to be of world standard with state-of-the-art facilities. He added that the female hostel which has a 158-bed capacity is at almost 95-98% completion level and many other facilities like the auditorium, libraries, laboratories and the perimeter fence are all on the verge of completion.

The governor had earlier formally inaugurated the road barricade installed on the Gombe Southern Bypass to stop heavy trucks from plying the road as part of measures to address incessant accidents along that axis and ensure the protection of lives and property of the people.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Inuwa said his administration made all necessary consultations with stakeholders before arriving at that conclusive decision.

“The decision to install this barricade was reached after due consultation with all stakeholders in order to protect the lives and properties of our people. With this barricade, any trailer, tanker and all heavy trucks must follow the alternate route along Kalshingi for the safety of the majority.

“ You may recall that a couple of months ago, we were here with all stakeholders, and we promised to take necessary actions to put an end to the recurring accidents along this road. And today we are happy that we have taken this bold decision of banning all heavy trucks from plying this road”, he added.

Governor Inuwa said the road was constructed many years ago as a bypass to reduce inflow of heavy trucks into the town. When it was constructed, there was less congestion in the area, but later on, the place developed to become part of the metropolis with many commercial activities going on which informed the implementation of this bold decision.

“The main function of government is to ensure safety and security of lives and property of the people and bring about development, and our government is doing everything possible to deliver on this mandate, we don’t play with the lives of our people” he noted.

He called on all the road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, warning that law will take it course on any body found breaking the laws. “This government takes the life of any of its citizens with utmost value and reverence, and whoever is found wanting will face the full wrath of the law”, he warned.

Also addressing traders and other members of the community, at the Pantami Junction of the Bypass road, Governor Inuwa commended the cooperation and support the people of the area accord him, urging them to avoid encroaching on right of ways.

”Our government is ever ready to provide more land for the expansion of this market place, for the smooth running of your businesses and safety of your lives”.

Earlier in his remarks, the Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr F. N. Teman said the barricade will go a long way in minimizing the rate of road accidents along the road.

“We had a clash that took the lives of 11 people earlier this year and later we had another that claimed the lives of two people. And we are so happy that His Excellency has taken this bold decision that will, by God’s grace stop such crashes along this road”, he said.

Also speaking, The Emir of Akko, Alh Umar Mohammed Atiku commended governor Inuwa for taking what he called the right decision towards ensuring safety of lives and properties of the citizens, urging the people to obey law and order in order for government to execute more developmental projects.

Responding on behalf of the community and the residents of the area, the Chairman of The Association of Traders in Hammadu Kafi, Bypass Area, Baba Umaru Yankari thanked Governor Inuwa for heading to their plea, adding that, the barricade will go a long way in saving lives and properties of their members and those of the Immediate communities living along the road, assuring their continued support to the Inuwa-led administration.

The governor was accompanied by the Chief of Staff Government House, Alh. Abubakar Inuwa Kari, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, among others.
