EXCLUSIVE: Kwara INEC Commissioner Begs Politicians For Money To Organise Send-Off Party

Mallam Garba Attahiru Madami, the outgoing Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kwara State, has solicited financial support from top politicians in the state for his send-off party.

Madami will be bowing out of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in July, having completed a one-time tenure in the state.

The official, in planning the send off ceremony, has written multiple letters to top politicians in the state for financial support for the event.

This news medium gathered that Madami wrote this letter through a proxy committee known as ‘Friends of Garba Attahiru Madami”, knowing fully well that making the request directly can breach the non-partisanship stance of INEC.

Some of the letters seen by our reporter were addressed to the Kwara State Governor, Mall AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman; Former Transport Minister, Gbemisola Saraki and Former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; and members of the national assembly from the state.

According to the letter signed by the proxy committee, the send off is organised to “etch Madami’s footprint in the sand of time”.

“Some personal attributes of Madam, which reflected in the conduct of credible elections in the history of Kwara State, spurred his Committee of Friends, which cut across the strata of the society, to want to organise a befitting send-off ceremony for him in appreciation of his sacrifices, personal denials and selflessness among others.”

“Our conviction is that people like him should not exit public service uncelebrated and unrewarded. It is in recognition of the foregoing that we solicit your Financial, Spiritual and Moral support to organise a befitting and memorable send-off event for him with a view to stimulating and firing the inner will of others in his category, to etch their footprints in the sands of time,” the letter partly read.

As at the time of filing this report, all efforts through multiple calls and text messages to get Madami's reaction proves abortive.
