Kwara State Commissioner for Communication, Alhaji Olarewaju Muritala has said the #100 million the present administration set aside, on a monthly basis, to offset the backlog of gratuities and the regular payment of pension were premised on its compassion to better the lots of the senior citizens.

In a statement, signed by the press secretary in the Ministry on Friday, Ayobola Olupinla, Commissioner argued that such a move has gone a long way to reshaping lives of the affected people, thereby halting the usual account of ordeals and premature deaths among the retirees in the state.

Olarewaju said ever since Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq came on board payment of pension has been frequent and that the gesture manifests how he is sensitive about the welfare of pensioners.

He said these people are not expected to enjoy anything less, given that they had paid their due while in active services, adding however that no responsible government will play down the essence of the elderly ones in a given society. He maintained that old age is a period when there could be increasing need for medical checkups and treatments of ailments, saying such could be hampered when there is no fund.

  1. Kwara workers are very disappointed. This is not what we bargained for during campaign. Don't be deceived by the gullible followers. That was how they put those before you into the pit.
