Police Arrest Five Thieves, Two Armed Robbers In Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested five suspects for alleged car snatching and armed robbery.

According to Independent News reports; Mr Nkereuwem Akpan, the Commissioner of Police, who paraded the criminal suspects at the state police headquarters on Wednesday, said the car thieves usually steal vehicles in Imo State and bring them to Yenagoa to sell.

He said, “On 12/6/2020 at about 1600hrs, a team of policemen attached to Operation Puff Adder were detailed to Amassoma community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State where one Chinemerem Emereonye, an indigene of Imo State, was arrested at the Motor Park.

“Suspect confessed to have snatched three mini buses from neighbouring states and sold same to residents of Amassoma in Bayelsa State.

“Investigation further led to the arrest of one Edolor Ekiyoukekeme and Ogunyele Ebenezer, both of Amassoma community, who are the receivers of the stolen items.”

He said two DAIHATSU mini buses with registration numbers AFK 235 ZY and BKL 117 ZJ as well as one mini bus with registration number BKL 124 ZJ were recovered from the suspects.

CP Uwem said the two other suspects, Tom Osain and one Ikechukwu (sure name unknown), robbed one Anthony Washington of his motorcycle worth N250, 000 at gunpoint and shot him in his right hand.

He said Osain, who confessed to the crime, was captured by the Otuoke vigilante members when he went the following morning to the scene of crime to search for his locally made gun that fell during the robbery.

CP Uwem said investigations were ongoing and all the suspects would be charged to court subsequently.
