The Kwara State Government has inaugurated a special probe panel to look into the remote and immediate causes of the Gana/Ganmo chieftaincy tussle and make recommendations on peaceful resolution of the age-long chieftaincy crisis.
Inaugurating members of the panel at the weekend, the State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Babatunde Alabere charged members of the panel to carry out the assignment with all the seriousness it deserves.
The Governor disclosed that the chieftaincy tussle had been lingering between the two Communities for over a decade, noting that as a responsive government, it is necessary to look into the issues surrounding the conflict with a view to finding lasting solution to the imbroglio.
He added that it is only through peaceful co-existence that development can reach the two Communities.
The probe panel, which is expected to submit its report within two weeks, would among others, make suggestions and recommendations to the State Government on the peaceful resolution of the Chieftaincy crisis.
His words: "The panel has two (2) weeks to submit its report. It's my believe that you are going to use your wealth of experience to work within the time frame and justify the confidence reposed in you by this appointment".
The terms of reference of the probe panel are:
(1) To look into the remote and immediate causes of the Chieftaincy tussle.
(2) To determine the genuine and sincere claims of each of the factions to the throne.
(3) To make recommendations to His Excellency on the position of Law on the matter.
(4) To make suggestions and recommendations on peaceful resolution of the Chieftaincy tussle.
(5) To make any other useful step to be taken to avoid future occurrences.
The six-man probe panel has Hon. Justice Ibrahim Adebayo Yusuf as its Chairman while Mallam Abdul Mao Muhammed (Director, Chieftaincy Affairs), would serve as Secretary.
Other members are: Prof. AbdulRauf Hambali, Barr. Abdulkadir Agboola Daib, Mr. Aina Ajayi Johnson, and Hon. Issa Raji.
Responding on behalf of members of the panel, the Chairman, Hon. Justice Ibrahim Adebayo Yusuf thanked the State Governor for the confidence reposed in them and assured that they would discharge their responsibilities with the fear of God and abide by the terms of reference given to them.
