Oloriegbe Congralutes Kwara NUJ Elected Exco, Sues For Balance Reportage

The Senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe has congratulated the newly elected chairman, Mr Ahmed AbdulLateef Olanrewaju and other executives of Kwara State Chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) over their victory in the polls which came up yesterday. 

The Lawmaker described the election that ushered in the new executives as peaceful and credible, expressing the belief that the new officials possess the wherewithal to elevate the profession to greater heights.

 According to a message made available to the press, "I congratulate the newly elected chairman of Kwara NUJ, Mr Ahmed AbdulLateef Olanrewaju of Herald chapel, and other executives who emerged victorious in the election.

"Being a journalist of reputable antecedents, it is hoped that the chairman will bring his immense wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of his duties of leading the union to enviable heights of remarkable success.

"I urge the new leadership to entrench the culture of balanced reportage of the happenings in the state to curtail fake news and misinformation that is capable of truncating peace and heating the polity and as well set up the machinery to fish out any deviant member that acts in contravention of the ethics of journalism.

"I commend the NUJ for the peaceful conduct of the election which underscores their propensity for upholding democratic values by allowing the popular choice of people to prevail.

Speaking further, the Senator called on journalists to ensure that interested parties in any news are engaged before publication is carried to avoid unnecessary rancour and controversy.

Oloriegbe while saluting the sportsmanship spirit of those who came behind in the poll result urged them to accept the outcome as the will of God, whilst enjoining them to remain undeterred but supportive to the new leadership and never stray from pursuing greater goals.
