Oloriegbe Nudges Education Minister on Federal Schools Establishment In Kwara

Concerned with the educational development of the State, the Senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, yesterday,  interrogated the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, on the incessant refusal to adopt the choice of Kwara in the designated States to host Federal government-owned schools in the country.

 The Lawmaker called the Minister attention to this when the latter appeared before the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education for the year 2022 budget defence of his ministry. Oloriegbe observed that the Federal Government deployed more resources at the primary and secondary levels of education, emphasizing the need to enhance similar investment at the tertiary level.

 "I looked through how you allocate resources, as a country that practises federalism, the Federal Government is to be saddled with certain responsibilities, but in Education, just like in Health, Federal Government wants to do everything by expanding and establishing Primary and Secondary Schools, the proposed Federal School of Sciences you brought is a secondary Education too.

"Though, Education being on the concurrent list, the Federal Government ought to commit more resources to the tertiary level but because of all the responsibilities at the lower level, the resources become drained, the government should look into it as part of a restructuring.

While making his remarks on the proposed establishment of the Federal School of Sciences, The lawmaker expressed displeasure at the exclusion of Kwara among the beneficiary states to host the school, bemoaning the similar treatment the state suffered on the Federal Colleges of Education establishment.

"We are among the six states without Federal College of Education, half of my state is educationally disadvantaged and if you would be bringing anything up, we should be given utmost priority in your consideration." The lawmaker enthused.
