May Day: Governor Fintiri Assures Workers Welfare For Effective Service Delivery, Allocates 600 Units Of Houses

The United Nations has set aside 1st May annually for the commemoration of Workers' Day. It is a day the organized labour brings together the entire workforce to celebrate its successes and look forward to a fulfilling year in service. The theme for this year's Workers’ Day is “labour, Politics and the Quest for Good Governance In Nigeria.”

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Sunday 1st May 2022 has attended the 2022 International Workers’ Day celebration at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola.

Governor Fintiri while addressing the workers momentary after inspecting the parade, described workers as an integral part of the success story of the present Administration, consequently its commitment to improving their welfare within available resources.

The Governor allocated 600 Units of Houses out of the 1,000 Housing Estate built by his Administration at Malkohi in Yola South Local Government Area to the Workers in the State and indicated that for a prolonged conceded the key role of workers mostly by remaining steadfastly supportive through maintaining sustainable polyphony in the State which he will not take that for granted.

He stated that the Government has ensured the implementation of the Minimum Wage and consequential adjustment of the salary while wages are paid as and when due.

He added that the Government has also introduced a new method of paying Leave Transport Grant allowances, and reduced the backlogs of gratuity arrears owed to retired workers.

Fintiri further said his administration has started the migration of pension of Local Government Retirees to e-payment among other several issues of workers’ welfare, and revealed that his Administration will donate a 13-Seater Bus to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Adamawa while other Unions will follow.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri divulged that Government under his watch has invested in security and infrastructure, and it is pursuing favourable policies that will attract investors to the state.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Emmanuel Fashe commended Governor Fintiri for the release of Two-point Eight billion (N2.8b) Naira in 2021 and 2022 for payment of gratuity of retirees.

He called on the Governor to assent to the media bill which was recently passed by the state Assembly and pay the arrears of consequential adjustment of the National Minimum Wage and pleaded for the implementation of the Minimum Wage at the Local Government Level as according to him a committee set up has already forwarded its report for Governor’s approval.

Spotlight of the event was a parade, drama entrainment by Staff of Art Council, and presentation of certificates to graduates and facilitators of labour school.
