Yola Specialist Hospital Workers Protest, Demand Sack Of MD

Workers of state-owned Adamawa Specialist Hospital, Yola, protested on Monday alleged bad leadership by the hospital management.

The workers accused the Medical Director, Dr Wadinga Dauda, of double standards, incompetence and insensitivity to workers’ needs and demanded that he be sacked.

The workers took over the main entrance to the hospital, asking that laboratory scientists be sacked because they were employed illegally by the MD.

The protest brought activities at the hospital to a halt, forcing management to instruct that only emergency cases received.

The workers alleged that some staff had been made redundant by the MD and that he employed non-indigenes to man the state-owned hospital.

Leader of the protesters, Awwal Lau who accused the MD of operating parallel laboratories in the same health facility, added that the MD does things always to suit himself and that he lacks good human relations in handling his staff.

He urged Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to investigate the running of the hospital and to effect changes to redeem the hospital.

Responding, the medical director said the workers were not sincere in their allegations.

He told newsmen, “The management can no longer allow quack or corrupt personnel or outdated equipment. When I took over, the Pharmacy Department was indebted to N39 million as a result of the involvement of the protesting staff in the diversion of drugs.

“We are fighting this cause for the people of Adamawa who had suffered bad medical services from the hands of these quacks.

“Imagine, a junior staff on GL-3 was caught diverting psychiatric drugs to people outside the hospital.”

Dr Dauda stressed that some of the protesters were unhappy with the management because they were transferred out of where they were not fit to operate or where they were perpetuating drug racketeering.
