By Nurat Uthman

Eight people have been killed in a lone crash at Kili village along Darazo-Kari Road in the Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The Federal Roads Safety Corps, while confirming the incident, said seven others sustained varying degrees of injury in the crash, which occurred on Thursday around 12.02am.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, made the confirmation in the First Incident Report he sent to journalists in the state on Thursday night.

According to him, the crash involved a grey Volkswagen Sharon Minibus.

He said the commercial vehicle, which was in the fleet of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, had the number plate, BCH 465 XA.

Abdullahi said 15 people — four male adults, six female adults, two male children and three female children, were in the vehicle when the incident occurred.

“The crash was caused by a tyre burst, which made the driver lose control of the steering.

“Immediately we got a report of the crash at 12.05am, our rescue team rushed to the scene within five minutes and evacuated the victims to the Darazo General Hospital for confirmation and treatment.

“When they got there, a medical doctor confirmed three male adults, two female adults, two male children and one female child, dead.

“Those who sustained injuries during the incident were one male adult, four female adults and two female children.

“Some of them sustained fractures, some bruises while others had head injuries. They are currently being treated in the hospital,” he said.

The FRSC boss noted that some personal effects  of the victims were retrieved from the scene while the obstructions were cleared.

He advised drivers to always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on any journey.
