Nigerian Weightlifter Patience Lawal Excels at Local, State, National and International Levels

Nigerian weightlifter Patience Lawal is a true champion. She has excelled at the local, state, national and international levels, winning numerous medals throughout her career.

Patience Lawal began her weightlifting career in 1989, and quickly rose to prominence. She won three gold medals at the First NNPC National Competition in Lagos that year, and continued to win medals at national competitions and the National Sports Festival throughout the 1990s.

In 2003, Patience Lawal represented Nigeria at the All Africa Games in Abuja, where she won two gold medals and a silver medal. She also won a bronze medal at the Ist Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad, India that year.

Patience Lawal's most impressive performance came at the 2007 All Africa Games in Algeria, where she won three gold medals and set a new international record in the clean and jerk event. She also competed at the World Weightlifting Championships in Vancouver, Canada in 2003, and the World Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2007.

In addition to her competitive success, Patience Lawal has also worked as a coach. She was a coach with the Nigerian team at the 2018 International World Weightlifting Championships in Turkmenistan.
