Kwara Marks World Sight Day 2021 In Grand Style

The Kwara State Government is today joining the rest of the World to commemorate the World Sight Day 2021with the theme, love your eyes.

The celebration has been planned to accommodate provision of free Cataract surgical services and distribution of free reading glasses to kwarans and inhabitants of Patigi Local Government and nearby communities from within and outside the State. 

The Eye outreach team and other members of the Free Medical and Surgical Mission of the State Ministry of Health shall converge at the General Hospital, Patigi in Patigi Local Government.

This is in furtherance of the State-wide free mission which had begun in July 2021, to ensure that the World Sight Day is celebrated.

The World Sight Day is an internationally designated day usually marked on the second Thursday of October annually as an opportunity to raise awareness on eye health issues of public concerns with the aim of complementing other measures to prevent avoidable blindness in our communities.

In consonance with the theme for this year, Kwara State Government has shown tremendous concerns for the Eye health of its citizens and had ensured the universal coverage for eye health care services and made it affordable and accessible to the less privileged and indigent people across the State.

No fewer than 900 patients had enjoyed free Sight restoration services from the Kwara State Government since the inception of the present administration while over 3,000 eye glasses have been provided to correct refractive errors and presbyopia cases in our various communities. 

In an exclusive chat with the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razaq commended Governor AbdulRazaq and described him as the peoples' Governor with a People Centred Agenda. 

He also commended his exceptional commitment to the construction of a new world class eye care centre at the Ilorin General Hospital and provision of standard equipment for the centre which shall be commissioned soon.. 

Dr. Razaq congratulated all Kwarans on the occasion of the 2021 World Sight Day and called on them to take good care of their eyes and avail themselves the opportunity to access health care services in the duly accredited health facilities.
