Thousand Of Residents Get Kwara Central Senator's Medical Outreach

About 1600 residents are being targeted to benefit from the ongoing 2021 medical outreach the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, facilitated to his district.

The medical mission, captured under 2021 Capital Project, was flagged off on Monday across the four local government areas of Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Asa that formed the senatorial district.

The intervention was organized in conjunction with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

Engr Ajani Olanrewaju, who spoke on behalf of Senator Oloriegbe at the event, said the exercise was in furtherance of the effort to bring quality healthcare delivery to the people at the grassroot.

He stated that the legislator was concerned about the advancement of the cause of the people of Kwara Central, hence the facilitation of the healthcare in collaboration with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.

According to the Legislative Aide to the legislator, Mrs Hafsat Abdulraheem, the exercise, which commenced from Magaji Are Primary Health Centre, Ilorin East local government area, was to last for four days.

While Adewole Primary Health Centre was designated for Ilorin West, Ogele Primary Health Centre and Idi-Ape Oko Primary Health Centre were penciled down for Asa and Ilorin South Local Government Areas respectively.

She said the medical outreach would be replicated across the four local government areas of the senatorial district to avoid concentration in one location.

The legislative aide called on residents of the senatorial district to see that the legislator was working tirelessly to give them quality representation at the National Assembly, adding that his programmes have always been people driven.

"The reason for this medical outreach is simple. First, it is because the Senator is so passionate about health. Because he is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, he feels whatever is happening, before he can influence at the federal level, he has to start from his Constituency. 

"And what is the better way, to create a free medical outreach for his Constituency so that other states can take the initiative and be able to replicate it in their States too. The essence of it is to be able to reach the less privileged", Mrs Abdulraheem said.

The Coordinator of the Medical Outreach, Dr Mubarak Jimoh, said the mission was targeted at 400 people per centre and noted that the turnout was overwhelming.

Jimoh said, "Basically, this type of primary healthcare outreach is involved with outpatient disease such as malaria, hepatitis, typhoid, sexually transmitted diseases, minor eye infections and general pediatric ailment, which does not involve admission or bed rest.

"The turnout has been overwhelming. In the previous year, we saw about 200 per centre. But this year, we have budgeted 400 people per centre. In a situation where we don't consume the medication, they are left for the centre to use for their patients".

He urged the beneficiaries to be more conscious of their health and utilize the opportunity of free medical mission whenever it is available.

Some of the  beneficiaries at the flag off ceremony commended the intervention of the legislator and admonished him to consolidate on the feat recorded in the National Assembly.

The Herald reports that Senator Oloriegbe facilitated similar medical outreach last year for people of his senatorial district.

In a related development, the wife of the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Hajia Maimunat Oloriegbe, also facilitated the distribution of maternal and newborn commodities to pregnant women and nursing mothers in the district.

The distribution, which was done under 2021 Capital Project and in collaboration with Pharmacists Council of Nigeria took place at Okelele Primary Health Centre, Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state.

Items distributed include such as generator, suction machine, incubator, digital weighing scale, oxygen mask, resuscitation cylinder, baby cut, radiant warmer, pampers, toiletries, soap, sponge and other maternal kits.
