Kwara SUBEB Chief, Adaramaja Bags Chieftaincy Title In Ifelodun

The Executive Chairman, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB), Professor Shehu Abdulraheem Adaramaja has been installed as GBOBANIYI OF ORO-AGO KINGDOM

The colorful event which was widely graced by political bigwigs, friends, well-wishers, and family took place Saturday evening at Oro Ogo, an ancient town in the Southern part of Kwara State.

While conferring the Chieftaincy title, His Royal Highness, Oba Johnson Olarewaju Dada, the Oloro of Oro-Ago lauded the giant strides the Asa-born professor has recorded in the Kwara State educational sector ever since He has been appointed as the Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board. 

The refined monarch added that such unprecedented performance should not go unnoticed. 

This title is to tell you that your performance is recognized across the nooks and crannies of the state, we've felt it here in Oro-Ago. The monarch added.

Brief Profile:

Shehu Adaramaja is a Professor of Health Education with a specialization in Primary Health Care, Community Health, and Wellness Education. He was appointed as the Executive Chairman of SUBEB by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

What GBOBANIYI means:

GBOBANIYI means Kingmaker. With this title, Professor Shehu Abdulraheem Adaramaja is going to be part and be duly involved in all the traditional council activities of the Oro-Ago Kingdom forthwith.

About Oro-Ago:

Oro-Ago is a settlement located in the South-Eastern part of Kwara State of Nigeria. It is about One Hundred and Ten (110) kilometers to Ilorin the State Capital. Oro-Ago Districts are located in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The District is a conglomeration of 7 dispersed settlements namely Omugo, Okedaba, Ajegunle, Owa, Irabon, Oro-Ago, and Oyate. 

The population is about 50,000 people. They speak Igbomina dialect. The town occupies approximately 800 square kilometers of land. The land is naturally fertile for agricultural activities in both plant and animal husbandry.

•HISTORY AND TRADITIONAL INSTITUTION

 Ajagungbade and Obobo are co-founders of the Oro-Ago Dynasty.

 Ajagungbade (a warrior) came from Ketu to settle at Ita-Ajagun near the present site of Oro-Ago about the middle of the fifteen century. There are presently fourteen wards (aku) in Oro-Ago. The current head of Oro-Ago known as the Oloro of Oro-Ago is the HRH Oba Johnson Olarewaju Dada; who was enthroned in 2014. May his reign brings much development to the land.

AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS:The natural vegetation consists of rain forest and wooded savannah. This mixture provided wide ranges of trees giving birth to sporadic sawmills in the land. A large variety of fruits are available in Oro-land. Importance is attached to cashew growing because the nuts are exported outside the community.

The other agricultural products are maize, guinea corn, cassava, sweet potato, beans, yam, and palm kernel.

MINERAL DEPOSIT:

The ancient people lived in the various cares of mountains that surround the community. Oreke, Aworoko, Okedaba, and Odia among others. These high grounds are endowed with mineral resources like clay, granite, (quartz, feldspars), and limestone, that could be exported as industrial material to provide employment and economic development for Oro-Ago.

TOURISM • Cultural Display & Traditional Festivals: various times of the year are set apart to honor deities that were worshiped in the land before the advent of Christianity. These include Ifa, Sango, Ogun, EegunOloboto, Epa, Aaba, Layewu, Odia, and Alaska. Most festivals are done in December totally with Christmas Celebrations.

• Owu Falls:Owu falls located in Ile-Ire District is less than ten kilometers from Oro-Ago. Regarded as the highest fall in West Africa.

• Church Olokuta: visit the first church in Oro-Ago and Environs and see the Bell brought by Red Guy Play Fair in 1915.

• Mountain Climbing: Oro-Ago is surrounded by various ranges of hills where the olden days people live. A significant hill is Amusodi Hill.

 This hill was where the Ose people first settled before they later dispersed. As a mark of remembrance were 6 stones used to depict each word during the meeting. The stones are still kept to date.

• Okedaba Settlement: This settlement is located among various Hills and Rocks. It is another model of Idanre (the tourist town) in Ondo State.
